In a move reflecting the ongoing political changes in Bangladesh, the interim government has decided to issue new currency notes that will no longer feature the image of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country's founding father.
The redesign will initially apply to the Takka 20, 100, 500, and 1,000 denominations. This decision, confirmed by the Bangladesh Ministry of Finance and the Bangladesh Bank, marks a significant shift in the country’s currency design.
A letter dated September 29 has requested detailed design proposals, with plans for a phased redesign of all currency denominations to follow.
