The United Kingdom has introduced a new trading scheme, providing duty-free access to Pakistani products and 64 other countries. This progressive initiative allows 94% of Pakistan's goods to enter the UK market without tariffs, resulting in substantial cost savings of £120 million.
Replacing the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), this scheme marks a significant milestone in Pakistan's exports to the UK. Additionally, 156 more products are expected to have their tariffs eliminated, further enhancing trade opportunities.
The British High Commission highlights the current trade volume of £4.4 billion between Pakistan and the UK, with expectations of future growth. This scheme promotes fair and free trade for 65 countries, including Pakistan, aiming to improve trade quality and facilitate global participation.
The focus on human and labor rights reinforces the importance of upholding these fundamental principles to fully leverage the benefits of the scheme.
