With a record-breaking 128 million registered voters, Pakistan gears up for its general elections on February 8.
A Free and Fair Election Network report reveals a notable increase of 22.5 million voters since 2018, with women accounting for 12.5 million. Pakistan now ranks as the fifth-largest democracy globally, with a voter-to-population ratio of 53.2%.
However, regional disparities persist, with Punjab leading at 57% and Balochistan trailing at 36%. The gender gap in voter registration has narrowed significantly, thanks to collaborative efforts by the Election Commission, NADRA, and civil society, though challenges persist, especially in Balochistan.
